How to use?
Take the medicine with plenty of liquid (e.g. 1/4 liter of water) in an upright position.

Duration of use?
You should take the medicine for 3 days without medical advice. If your symptoms persist or recur regularly, you should consult your doctor.

Overdose?
As the medicine is made up of various active ingredients, a variety of overdose symptoms can occur, including painful intestinal cramps and severe diarrhea. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor immediately.

As a general rule: Pay particular attention to conscientious dosing, especially with infants, small children and older people. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautions.

A dosage prescribed by a doctor may differ from the information on the package leaflet. As the doctor will adjust it individually, you should therefore use the medicine according to his instructions.
Dosage
General dosage recommendation:

Adolescents from 12 years and adults 5-10 g (1-2 scoops) once a day in the evening, after a meal, not directly before going to bed
Maximum dose: A dose of 10 g granules (equivalent to 2 measuring spoons) per day should not be exceeded.
As a rule, it is sufficient to take the medicine 2-3 times a week.
The laxative effect normally occurs after 8 to 12 hours.
It should be taken 1/2-1 hour apart from other medicines.
Ensure that you drink sufficient fluids.
Dosing aid: The medicine comes with a measuring container for correct dosing.

How do the ingredients of the medicine work?

Senna

The ingredients come from the senna plant and act as a natural mixture. There are two different types of senna, Alexandrine and Tinnevelly senna. About the plants themselves:
- Appearance: Semi-shrubs with airy leaflets and small yellow flower clusters that develop into elongated oval pods
- Occurrence: Tropics and subtropics, often from plantations in India or Malaysia
- Main constituents: Anthranoids
- Plant parts and preparations used: Extracts from the fruits and powder from the leaves and fruits
Both senna leaves and the fruits are laxatives. They stimulate the movements of the large intestine and inhibit the recovery of water and salts from the intestine, so that the increase in volume stretches the intestinal wall more and emptying can occur earlier and more easily.

Indian psyllium

The ingredients come from the Indian psyllium plant and act as a natural mixture. About the plant itself:
- Appearance: Annual, almost stemless herb
- Occurrence: India, its neighboring countries and southern Brazil
- Main ingredients: Mucilage
- Parts of the plant used: Seeds and seed husks
Indian psyllium seeds owe their laxative effect to their high mucilage content. This mucilage can swell up to 40 times its original volume in water. Due to this increase in volume, psyllium seeds make the intestinal contents more supple and voluminous. The stretching of the intestinal wall stimulates intestinal movement so that the intestinal contents are passed through the body more quickly.
In addition, the seed husks can also bind excess water in the stool and solidify it in this way.

Contraindications AGIOLAX Madaus Granulat 100g

What speaks against use?

- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Sudden change in bowel habits (longer than 2 weeks)
- Bleeding from the rectum (not clarified)
- Taking a laxative without defecation having taken place
- Esophageal disease
- Disease of the stomach entrance
- Constriction in the digestive tract, e.g. in the oesophagus, stomach or small or large intestine
- Intestinal obstruction
- Intestinal paralysis
- Megacolon (abnormally dilated bowel)
- Inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease) that are acute
- Appendicitis
- Abdominal pain of unknown cause
- Difficulty swallowing
- Severe fluid deficiency
- Disorders of the fluid and salt balance

Which age group should be considered?
- Children under 12 years of age: The medicine must not be used.

What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
- Pregnancy: The medicinal product must not be used.
- Breastfeeding: The medicine must not be used.

What should you be aware of?
- Urine may become discolored.
- Only use laxative medicines for a short time without a doctor's recommendation. Prolonged use may lead to chronic constipation and/or other problems. If there is no success after short-term use, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
- Caution: Laxatives are not suitable for weight loss.

- Be careful if you are allergic to psyllium!
- Take care if you are allergic to spices such as aniseed, mugwort, dill, fennel, carrot, coriander, caraway, paprika, parsley, celery and tomatoes!
- Take care if you are intolerant to sucrose. If you have to follow a diabetic diet, you should take the sugar content into account.
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medicine you are already taking before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.

Wie wirken die Inhaltsstoffe des Arzneimittels?

Sennes

Die Inhaltsstoffe entstammen der Sennespflanze und wirken als natürliches Gemisch. Es gibt zwei verschiedene Sennes-Arten, Alexandriner- und Tinnevelly-Sennes. Zu den Pflanzen selbst:
- Aussehen: Halbsträucher mit luftigen Fiederblättern und kleinen gelben Blütentrauben, die sich zu länglich-ovalen Hülsenfrüchten entwickeln
- Vorkommen: Tropen und Subtropen, oft von Plantagen aus Indien oder Malaysien
- Hauptsächliche Inhaltsstoffe: Anthranoide
- Verwendete Pflanzenteile und Zubereitungen: Extrakte aus den Früchten und Pulver aus den Blättern und Früchten
Sowohl Sennesblätter als auch die Früchte gehören zu den Abführmitteln. Sie stimulieren die Bewegungen des Dickdarms und hemmen die Rückgewinnung von Wasser und Salzen aus dem Darm, so dass durch die Volumenzunahme die Darmwand stärker gedehnt wird und eine Entleerung früher und leichter eintreten kann.

Indischer Flohsamen

Die Inhaltsstoffe entstammen der Pflanze indischer Flohsamen und wirken als natürliches Gemisch. Zu der Pflanze selbst:
- Aussehen: Einjähriges, fast stängelloses Kraut
- Vorkommen: Indien, seine Nachbarländer und Südbrasilien
- Hauptsächliche Inhaltsstoffe: Schleimstoffe
- Verwendete Pflanzenteile: Samen und Samenschalen
Die abführende Wirkung verdanken die Indischen Flohsamen ihrem hohen Schleimgehalt. Dieser Schleim kann in Wasser bis auf das 40-fache des ursprünglichen Volumens quellen. Durch diese Volumenzunahme machen Flohsamen den Darminhalt geschmeidiger und voluminöser. Die Dehnung der Darmwand regt die Darmbewegung an, so dass der Darminhalt schneller durch den Körper geschleust wird.
Daneben können die Samenschalen auch überschüssiges Wasser im Stuhl binden und ihn auf diese Weise verfestigen.

Was spricht gegen eine Anwendung?

- Überempfindlichkeit gegen die Inhaltsstoffe
- Plötzliche Veränderung der Stuhlgewohnheiten (länger als 2 Wochen)
- Blutung aus dem Mastdarm (nicht abgeklärt)
- Einnahme eines Abführmittels ohne erfolgte Stuhlentleerung
- Speiseröhrenerkrankung
- Erkrankung des Mageneingangs
- Verengung im Verdauungstrakt, z.B. an der Speiseröhre, am Magen oder am Dünn- oder Dickdarm
- Darmverschluss
- Darmlähmung
- Megakolon (krankhaft erweiterter Darm)
- Entzündliche Darmerkrankungen (Colitis ulcerosa, Morbus Crohn), die akut sind
- Blinddarmentzündung
- Bauchschmerzen unbekannter Ursache
- Schwierigkeiten beim Schlucken
- Schwerer Flüssigkeitsmangel
- Störungen des Flüssigkeit- und Salzhaushaltes

Welche Altersgruppe ist zu beachten?
- Kinder unter 12 Jahren: Das Arzneimittel darf nicht angewendet werden.

Was sollten Sie beachten?
- Der Urin kann verfärbt werden.
- Wenden Sie abführende Arzneimittel ohne ärztliche Empfehlung nur kurzzeitig an. Eine längerfristige Anwendung führt unter Umständen zu einer chronischen Verstopfung und/oder weiteren Problemen. Bleibt der Erfolg nach kurzzeitiger Anwendung aus, wenden Sie sich an Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker.
- Achtung: Abführmittel eignen sich nicht zur Gewichtabnahme.
- Vorsicht bei Allergie gegen Flohsamen!
- Vorsicht bei Allergie gegen Gewürze, wie z.B. Anis, Beifuß, Dill, Fenchel, Karotte, Koriander, Kümmel, Paprika, Petersilie, Sellerie und Tomaten!
- Vorsicht bei einer Unverträglichkeit gegenüber Saccharose. Wenn Sie eine Diabetes-Diät einhalten müssen, sollten Sie den Zuckergehalt berücksichtigen.
- Es kann Arzneimittel geben, mit denen Wechselwirkungen auftreten. Sie sollten deswegen generell vor der Behandlung mit einem neuen Arzneimittel jedes andere, das Sie bereits anwenden, dem Arzt oder Apotheker angeben. Das gilt auch für Arzneimittel, die Sie selbst kaufen, nur gelegentlich anwenden oder deren Anwendung schon einige Zeit zurückliegt.
