12 LOPERAMIDE AL 2 mg orodispersible tablets for
LOPERAMID AL 2 mg Schmelztabletten for the symptomatic & short-term treatment of acute diarrhoea
LOPERAMID AL 2 mg orodispersible tablets can be taken briefly in acute diarrhea. Acute diarrhea is actually a natural protective function of the body to quickly excrete harmful substances from the intestinal tract. Instead, more water remains in the intestine, the stool becomes more liquid and voluminous, so that you have to go to the toilet more often. The causes can be many and include infections caused by pathogens, wrong or bad food, nervousness or stress.
The active ingredient loperamide slows down the natural bowel movement, so that the stool thickens and thus the frequency of defecation is reduced. This also minimizes the loss of water and electrolytes.
Dosage of LOPERAMID AL 2 mg orodispersible tablets:
The LOPERAMID AL 2 mg orodispersible tablets are for short-term use and approved for adolescents from 12 years of age and adults. The orodispersible tablets can be taken without water and melt quickly on the tongue
Adolescents aged 12 years and over: initially 1 schmelztablette and after each unformed stool 1 additional schmelztablette, but maximum 4 schmelztabletten per day
Adults: Initially 2 orodispersible tablets and after each unformed stool 1 additional orodispersible tablet, but maximum 6 orodispersible tablets per day
The LOPERAMID AL 2 mg orodispersible tablets should not be taken in case of bloody stool, fever or severe abdominal cramps.
If symptoms persist or worsen over 2 to 3 days, a doctor should be consulted.
The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

How does the active ingredient in the medicine work?
The active ingredient acts directly on receptors in the intestinal tract. This allows it to partially prevent intestinal movements that transport the intestinal contents further, thereby reducing the urge to defecate and the frequency of bowel movements.
